Fennel Essential Oil Uses and Benefits

The fennel plant is native to regions of southern Europe and Asia Minor, but has since reached other nations around the world. It is best known for its powerful and potent aid in digestive health. Its strong licorice-like scent and aroma is gained from steam distillation of the crushed seeds of the fennel plant. Fennel is popular in soaps, candles, and perfumes. If you diffuse this oil, it creates a grounding environment.

Fennel essential oil is great for menstrual or digestive discomfort. Just rub some fennel on your stomach or the bottoms of your feet. It helps support a healthy lymphatic system and helps minor skin irritation, too. It also helps reduce the appearance of pores; just add 1-2 drops of fennel on a freshly washed face. You can also add a few drops to a gentle facial cleaner.

Fennel essential oil blends well with basil, geranium, lavender, lemon, rosemary, and sandalwood. If you ever run out of fennel essential oil, you can substitute with juniper berry, basil, lemon, or cardamom.

Some things to keep in mind with using fennel essential oil:

If you have a history of seizures avoid use. With most oils use with caution if you are pregnant. When using any essential oil be mindful and test your skin before widespread use. Excessive use of any oil can lead to skin sensitization. Remember essential oils will not cure your medical issues and you should talk to your doctor before use of some oils, if you have health issues.
