It’s that time of year again where everyone is starting to eat healthy and get their summer bodies ready again. Sometimes it’s just hard to get ready for a workout either before a long day of work or after. Another down side of working out is sore muscles, but in the long run working out and taking care of ourselves is key. I’m hoping some of the essential oil ideas I present to you can help with both pre and post workout issues.
There is one essential oil that is great for waking you and helping with sore muscles. Peppermint! We all love the smell of peppermint. A nice big inhale of some peppermint oil before a workout should wake you up and get you energized for your workout. Also if you’re feeling a bit sore after, you can make a peppermint rub. Just melt some coconut oil in the microwave, add a couple drops of peppermint oil and let it set in the fridge until hard. Use when needed. You can do this with just about any essential oil out there.
Eucalyptus is wonderful for both pre and post workout. It helps support your moods and energy. It’s great to have in your workout preparation kit. You can mix together in a spray bottle: 4oz of water, a couple drops of eucalyptus, geranium, peppermint, rosemary and palmarose. Then just spray on yourself before your workout. It also helps you stay cool in the summer.
You can make a few other rubs and here’s how:
Pre Workout Rub
Melt some coconut oil in the microwave
Add a few drops marjoram, lavender, thyme, peppermint
Let sit in the fridge until hardened
Use on body before workout.
Post Workout Rub
Melt some coconut oil in the microwave
Add a few drops marjoram, thyme, lemon, roman chamomile, cypress, peppermint
Let sit in fridge until hardened
Use on body after workout
You can also make a nice soak if you are feeling sore after a hard workout. Just add a couple drops of marjoram, lavender, helichrysum and roman chamomile with some Epsom salt. Another great essential oil blend is Pan-away. It works wonders on sore muscles.
I hope these come in handy during this year’s workout sessions.
